Brief list of what Viks/Normans wore

Post  Kirsty on Sat Dec 13, 2008 3:30 am

Just is just a brief post for newbies, until the kit guide is made.

What a viking man would have worn:
undertunic
overtunic (or two)
Pants
Leg-wraps or putties if they hadn't long boots
Cloak, square or semi-circular
Alternatively in later years coats
Hat/hood

various brooches to hold their clothes up, tablet weave and furs.

What a Norman would have worn:
undertunic
overtunic for battle riding
or
overtunic for everyday wear or fancy wear that was pretty much a dress
earlier years -pants like vikings (close fitting) and puttees
later years Split leg hoes ensemble
Padded gambeson or akeaton
Surcoat developed whilst on crusade to stop armour heating in the sun
some sort of ugly hat
pointier shoes than vikings. the pointier the higher ranking you are.
Square or semi circular cloak in earlier years
Mantles in later years

again brooches, annular mostly to hold stuff up
a shed load of belts
a shed load of fur
They preferred finer fabrics rather than extra decorations to show wealth
